THAT BITCH GOT BODY!

THAT BITCH GOT BODY is a phrase that is specific to a cultural milieu. Its history has evolved out of black gay male, black drag queen, and black transgender context rooted in New York City. This body of work is inspired by personal experiences with my body from enduring homophobia and battling Stage IV cancer to tenderness and being embraced. All of our experiences are valuable and our bodies are our autobiographies. This work is truth-telling and has healing qualities. - Andre D. Singleton | Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts 2011 | Arts in Context: Culture and Media Studies + Dance | New York City, NY

analyze them

Dodging these emotions or being frightened by them gets us nowhere.

to tell the truth

I don’t ever want to show anyone my physical and psychological wounds and scars without telling them what caused me to hurt, what it will take to heal me, and what collectively and responsibly should be done to prevent similar injuries from ever happening, again - for me or to others
